Supporting Teaching Assistants (TAs)
There are many different names that you might find yourself having for very similar roles. You may be called a graduate teaching assistant, workshop leader, grader, classroom assistant, student assistant, and many others. However, the common feature between these roles is typically the following:
You work directly with professors in course deliver
You are employed on a limited contract that aligns with the term
You may frequently work directly with undergraduate students
You may be involved in the grading process
You may be expected to deliver lessons
Unfortunately, other common features in these roles are limited training, limited support, and limited assistance balancing professional duties with other duties, such as graduate studies.
While there are many different types of support that you need, Trillium Academics focusses on transferrable professional skills with a focus on how they apply to your current role. Our expertise is built on our previous experience as teaching assistants alongside the practices developed in post-secondary learning skill supports. This often includes guiding you on skills specific to time management, presentation, and interpersonal skills, all through how they relate to teaching assistant duties.
We are also happy to work with international students who may feel they need additional help with these skills in the Canadian context.
While they are important considerations, we do not have the ability to help you with financial, housing, or visa concerns. Our supports are entirely based on skill-based growth to help build confidence in your role.
Look through this page for some of our current resources and offerings to help you along your journey. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to use the contact form at the bottom or email info@trilliumacademics.ca.
